ARMA 2 Free Download
Arma 2: Free (A2F) redefines the free-to-play battlefield with its truly unrivalled scale and gameplay possibilities. A2F serves up almost everything offered by the original Arma 2 - the '13th best PC game of all time', according to PC Gamer [1] - minus the campaign, HD graphics and support for user-made addons and mods.
A wide variety of multiplayer game-modes are possible - from a range of co-op and PvP modes, to total mayhem! Many of them are ready to deploy from the get-go, while others can be created using the built-in mission editor, or freely downloaded from the Internet. Deploy user-made scenarios and play together on the same premium game-servers, as long as they don't depend on additional content not available within the already huge armory of over 300 authentic modern weapons, units and vehicles.
Software for dedicated servers is available for users to host freely wherever and however they like across Linux and Windows OS platforms. Multiplayer with large-scale maps for 50+ live players and hundreds of AI units. User communities can host any type of games they like, the way they like - private or public - with stock game modes or custom ones, for the maximum number of players their hardware and connection can support.
Arma 2[N 1] is a military simulation video game developed and published by Bohemia Interactive for Microsoft Windows. It is the sequel to Arma: Armed Assault (Arma: Combat Operations in North America), and the predecessor to Arma 3. Arma 2 saw a limited release in May 2009, and a wide release from June 2009 through July 2009. An expansion pack titled Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead was released in 2010.[5] In June 2011, a free version of the game was released, featuring multiplayer and limited single-player modes. It is also considered the official successor of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (which has since been renamed to Arma: Cold War Assault by Bohemia Interactive).[6]
Arma 2 was announced in 2007.[12] It is named after the Latin word "arma", meaning weapons, soldiers, and war. Due to the fact that the previous game in the series was named Armed Assault, Arma 2 is often referred to as Armed Assault 2, albeit in error. Although Arma 2's title is stylized as ArmA II, it is done as an homage to the previous game in the series, because the game's title is a slight contraction of Armed Assault in the first game in the series.[13]
Arma 2 uses different copy protections depending on publisher as well as a in-house coded copy protection solution against tampering known as DEGRADE.[24] If the software detects that it was pirated, the DEGRADE-system degrades features of the game, rendering it unplayable. The version downloadable from Steam is not limited by number of installs, but other download services may utilize some limits. As of version 1.05 the publishers copy protection have been removed from Arma 2 although DEGRADE is still included.
In June 2011 Bohemia Interactive released a free-to-play version of Arma 2, featuring full multiplayer compatibility with the retail version of Arma 2.[6] However, the single-player campaign was omitted and players are not able to use high-resolution textures. In 2012, Steam removed ARMA 2: Free from its database. The service eventually was discontinued on 8 April 2014.[25]
Bohemia Interactive has so far released two downloadable content packs for Operation Arrowhead. The first DLC, titled British Armed Forces, adds units from the British Army, and a new mini-campaign, where players assume the role of a company from the Parachute Regiment operating in Takistan.[34][35] The second DLC, titled Private Military Company, includes a new campaign, environment, vehicles, and weapons.[36] The third DLC, titled Army of the Czech Republic, added the titular Army of the Czech Republic, a new campaign, vehicles, and weapons.[37]
I have encountered some problems installing the 1.7.2.5 and newest beta patches, so I decided the best route would be to do a clean install. I purchased Operation Arrowhead for 19.99 and was using the Arma II free version with it for obvious reasons. Now today when I tried to install the free version of Arma II it was not available when I searched for it in the steam store, and when I click on the game through my friend's profile it goes straight to the main store page. Did they remove it because of compatibility issues or something? Anyone know anything about it? If not heads up to everyone else.
According to the releases that have just popped up from BIS, Arma II is available for free, while OpFlash has been renamed for future release. Sadly, they do seem to be jumping the gun somewhat, as the download links are not actually live on the site in question. When the links do appear, you'll be able to get a version Arma II, minus the single player campaign, minus fancy graphics, but with all the awesome multiplayer and editor stuff, for nowt. Hell, we might just have to run some "Arma II 4 Nowt" RPS evenings so that some of you who haven't yet tasted the pungent, leathery-yet-addictive taste of hard simulation can find out what it's all about.
The other news which my headline so clumsily reveals is that the original Operation Flashpoint is now back in the BIS stable, although now called Arma: Cold War Assault. BIS say: "All existing users of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis and the Game of the Year Edition are entitled to download and install Arma: Cold War Assault at no charge. The game will also be released through various online stores in the near future." So free if you already own it. Which is not free. Or is it if it has a new name? I am confused.
