I would like the floorstanding if it will sound as clean as the bookshelf. And at the same price, $129, I am torn on which way to go. I tried listening to them in the store but I couldn't get a good feel for them, and for some strange reason they wouldn't let me borrow them :)

I don't know that there is a "best," but the Onkyo TX-8020 receiver has gotten good review and is available for $159 on Amazon. I think it would be an excellent match, even if you don't care about the tuner and just use it as a preamp and power amplifier. For even less money, you could also consider one of the inexpensive tripath (also called "Class T") amplifiers available from places like Amazon and Parts Express.

These pioneers sound very sweet, their warm character matching my front B&W pair at a cost (685's at 45,000 baht here...) of 5000 baht. I'd never even listen to Pioneers unless I'd read this article..... I still cannot quite believe 1. The quality for a Pioneer or 2. The way they blend in and extend the sound field.

A bit late to the party, but I'm contemplating picking up a set of these to go with a new U-Turn Orbit Plus I've ordered for my wife. I have a phono pre-amp, but have been scratching my head on what amp would work best on these (while staying in the spirit of low-cost but good). The NAD D3020 and C316BEE come to mind...thoughts??

I have a pair of Pioneer SP BS22 but not thoroughly satisfied. Looks like wharfdale has more clarify, sound-stage and emotion compared to pioneers. Also, we have a new debut series of Elac B6 which i am very much tempted to buy. Not sure which one to choose. Can someone suggest me which one to choose? I like live and true to life music and little warmness or richness in the sound.

I'm aware of that - HTIB can refer to systems that simply have an AVR + Branded Speakers in one package, it doesn't mean it has to have those silly proprietary players. Denon, Onkyo, and a few other companies have all sold or still sell them. However the speakers they ship with these sets are mediocre at best.

Bose makes really good speakers. What I don't like about Bose systems is they are over priced and Bose performs best at higher volumns. My feeling is that at low levels they tend to be weak. Look at the acoustimass. Sub and tweeters, no mid range.

Much of Best Buys best audio equipment will be order only. Stores like to sell packaged systems. If your local store will allow it bring in a copy of a movie. Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back in THX are excellent choices. I fyou can get them to put the movie in for you adjust the volumns up and down for low volumn and high.

I have the first Gen of those pioneer speakers in my livingroom and they are phenominal. I have been quite surprised by them and I have a Denon 891 (Denon fan) powering them. I am using an old Boston Micro 90 sub though so I can't comment on the pioneer sub.

No, I didn't win the lottery from my local grocery store chain. (But the top prize was $1M in the form of a $50K/yr annuity for 20 yrs.) What would I have done had I won it? Besides the usual responsible/sensible stuff, I figured the best bang would be to attend more live music and maybe travel more.

I was just curious to know whether the dynamic constraints of the speakers were due more to the lack of power from the low powered integrated or the speakers themselves. Did you try hooking up the pioneer floorstanders to any multikilobuck amps to see if it was more due to a power limitation?

The speakers built into TVs are too tiny to play loud or to reproduce bass, and at best they can create a poor simulation of surround sound. Soundbars can offer a substantial sonic upgrade over TV speakers, but a good surround-sound speaker system plays louder, sounds clearer and more natural, produces more realistic surround-sound effects, and delivers the kind of seat-shaking bass you can hear in a good movie theater. Separate speakers take a bit more work to plan and set up than a soundbar, but the work is worth it if you want to experience movie-theater-quality sound.

Q Acoustics 3020i and 3090Ci: The 3020i is the current top pick in our guide to the best bookshelf speakers for most stereos, and this system was also one of our favorites for home theater. Our panelists thought the better bass performance of the Polk Signature and ELAC Debut 2.0 speakers made them a little better for home theater, though.

LG is one of the best OLED TV manufacturers out there right now, so we love seeing big discounts on their best TVs. This 86-inch LG 80 Series 4K TV is a unique one. It uses QNED technology, which is similar to QLED and OLED, but has its own advantages. The best thing about it today is probably its discount -- it's $200 off, making it only $1,800. That's not cheap, but it's a very good price for a TV this massive. You even get three months of Apple TV+ and 30-day FuboTV trial for free when you buy. Read more about QNED below then check out the deal at Best Buy.

Even though high-profile dramas are what drive streaming subscriptions, platforms like Netflix also have some of the best documentaries right now. This genre of filmmaking is an incredibly versatile one, and when done faithfully, they can be powerful tools in shining light on truths. This streamer has an impressive lineup of documentaries, ranging from crime scandals to breathtaking spotlights on the natural world and its various wonders. Netflix's catalog of documentaries offres countless hours' worth of unique intrigue, and with new movies and series coming to Netflix all the time, the library is always growing. 041b061a72
